Green industrial park set to create thousands of jobs for Afghans

Almost complete – Afghanistan’s first industrial park with landmark green credentials is expected to create jobs for 100,000 Afghans within the next ten years.

About 70 percent of the initial infrastructure, including roads and electricity, has been installed and land is now being distributed to industry owners.

The industrial park in Afghanistan’s northern Parwan province will initially be able to accommodate 300 factories, but continued investment on site will see the park grow to eventually house potentially 1,500 small and medium sized businesses. A range of investors are being encouraged to invest in the industrial park, including Afghans who are willing to return from Pakistan.

According to the head of the project, Mohsin Amiri, over a ten-year period the aim is for nearly $4 billion to be invested in the industrial park

“All the international standards have been considered in establishing the park and all the facilities that an industrial park needs are there. You will eventually see a hospital, health centers and accommodation for workers,” Amiri said.

Amiri went on to say that the first phase of the project will be inaugurated by the Government and private sector in just under six months.
