Around 300 migrants stranded in the Mediterranean sea

A further 140 migrants are stranded on the Mediterranean sea after being rescued from a sinking dingy by Maltese authorities. This brings the total number of migrants stranded off the coast of Malta to 300.

Another group of around 160 migrants has been at sea for over three weeks aboard two tourist boats chartered by the Maltese government. Malta has refused to allow irregular migrants to disembark, citing the coronavirus pandemic as the reason. The UN has urged Malta and other EU member states to reach a deal to take in the 160 migrants, saying the rescued migrants are facing harsh conditions.
