Dozens of migrants die in 2020’s deadliest Mediterranean shipwreck

About 45 Europe-bound migrants, including five children, have died in a shipwreck on the Mediterranean sea off the Libyan coast, the UNHCR said.

The migrants were amongst over 80 people onboard a vessel when the engine exploded, causing a shipwreck that has been dubbed the deadliest on the central Mediterranean route in 2020.

The tragedy was reported by 37 survivors, largely from Ghana, Mali, Chad, and  Senegal, who were rescued by fishermen. The survivors were detained after they disembarked in Libya.
