Morocco and Portugal to increase collaboration on migration
Morocco and Portugal plan to strengthen their collaboration on curbing irregular migration in the future, according to an agreement made between Portugal’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Eduardo Cabrita, and his Moroccan counterpart, Abdelouafi Laftit.
The move comes in response to growing evidence that Portugal is fast becoming an alternative choice for irregular migrants seeking to reach Europe. Portuguese authorities have recorded at least 69 irregular migrant arrivals to the Algarve region in southern Portugal from Morocco.
Both governments also expressed interest in setting up more legal migration channels between the two countries.
