Morocco arrests 23 Europe-bound irregular migrants
No fewer than 23 irregular migrants with unknown nationalities were arrested on 19 June by the Moroccan Police. The group, comprising 23 males and a female, were arrested as they were about to leave the coast of El Jadida onboard a small boat.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security said preliminary investigations to locate the smugglers behind the irregular migration operation had commenced. The arrest of the migrants, who were in possession of two marine engines and 20 plastic jerry cans containing 400 litres of gasoline, was part of Morocco’s efforts to end irregular migration and human trafficking.
