EU Commission seeks faster deportation of migrants

A proposal to fastrack the deportation of migrants who do not meet asylum requirements in Europe has been presented by the European Union Commission. The proposal seeks to ensure “effective enforcement” of removal decisions.

According to the proposal document, deportations will be voluntary while the EU will support the reintegration of migrants in their home countries, as a means of encouraging more migrants to voluntarily return home.

The proposal is part of the European Union’s strategy to reduce the number of irregular migrants and refugees, mostly from Africa and the Middle East.
