First migrant boat mishap in 2021 claims 43 lives

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and UNHCR on Wednesday said no fewer 43 people died while 10 others were rescued after their boat capsized off the coast of Libya.

The migrant boat which was Europe bound was reported to have left the northwestern Libyan city of Zawya on Tuesday and capsized a few hours after departure due to bad sea condition and faulty engine.

According to the UNHCR, this is the first migrant boat mishap since the beginning of the year 2021. It also added that those who died were all men from West African countries.
