Nearly 300 irregular migrants held in Turkey

Nearly 300  irregular migrants in western and eastern parts of Turkey have been detained, according to security sources in the country. 

Half of those had just entered Turkey on minivans and buses via its eastern border with Iran; while the other half were trying to cross its western border with Greece on a wooden boat. 

At least four of those detained have been arrested for human smuggling. 

Turkey is a main transit point for irregular migrants attempting to reach Europe.
