Fewest asylum applications in the EU since 2008 due to coronavirus

The number of asylum applications registered in the European Union has dramatically decreased in the last few months, with only 8,730 applications being lodged in April, according to The European Asylum Support Office (EASO). The cu

This drop in cases is due to the measures in response to the coronavirus pandemic. EASO’s report says that “countries exploited the pandemic to reduce part of the backlog previously accumulated.”
