Italy “has no more room for illegal migrants,” minister insisted

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio stated that Italy had “no more room” for irregular migrants on a recent visit to Tunisia. The statement comes in response to an increase in arrivals of nearly 150 per cent in the last year. 

Officials from the European Union and Italy met with officials from the Tunisian government this month to discuss plans to support Tunisian development efforts, including with job creation. 

More than 21,000 migrants, mostly from Tunisia and Libya, reached Italy between August 2019 and the end of July.
