Migrants arrivals to the Greek islands halved since last year

The number of arrivals of migrants and asylum seekers to the Greek islands is down by 51% compared in the first half of 2020 compared to the first six months of last year, according to the latest data from the Greek Migration Ministry.

Meanwhile, primary decisions on asylum applications increased by 88%. About 46,554 decisions were issued in the first half of 2020 while only 24,701 were issued in the same period in 2019, the government spokesperson Stelios Petsas stated during a briefing on 6 July.
