Over 1,500 migrants intercepted in Libya in a week
More than 1,500 Europe-bound migrants have been intercepted off Libya’s west coast during a string of rescue operations by the Libyan coast guard in the past week.
About 240 migrants were rescued from two boats off the port city of Al-Khums on 10 February, said Lieutenant-Colonel Mohammed Abdel Aali of the coastguard.
The rescued migrants are to be taken to various detention centres across the North African country.
