Dozens of migrants rescued off Tunisian coast

About 50 migrants from different African countries have been rescued by the Tunisian Navy after spending five days at sea, according to the Tunisian Defence Ministry.

The migrants aboard an Italy-bound boat were rescued on 11 January off the eastern coast of Tunisia’s Mahdia.

The body of an infant was also recovered during the rescue mission, according to Tunisian authorities.

Hundreds of irregular migrants have lost their lives in recent months in an attempt to reach Europe through the Tunisian waters.
