Spain: Migrant workers protest dire living conditions after three unexplained fires
Weeks after three separate fires broke out within a week in migrant settlements near the city of Lepe (Huelva) in southwest Spain, migrant workers continue to protest their dire living conditions with no solution in sight.
Four people were injured in the three fires that engulfed the makeshift camps for migrant workers. The camps were home to over 400 people, 150 of whom lost everything in the fire.
Although the Spanish government had planned to send an emergency military division to set up temporary lodgings for the affected people, this intervention has been stalled due to concerns around the suitability of the available land.
