Greece: Major drop in migrant arrivals compared to April and May 2019
New migrant arrivals to the Greek islands have decreased sharply in April and May compared to the same period of last year, the Greek migration ministry has confirmed. While 5,914 refugees and migrants arrived in Greece in April and May 2019, only 280 people arrived in April and May 2020.
Greece’s Migration and Asylum Minister, Notis Mitarachi explained the steps taken by the government to curb the flows of migrants. “Our country is not an open vineyard, we are protecting our land and sea borders,” he said.
