Libyan coast guard intercepts 83 Europe-bound migrants

No fewer than 83 migrants on a Europe-bound boat were on Sunday, 12 July, intercepted by Libya’s coast guard, and taken to a detention centre in western Libya.

This was made known by the Spokesperson of the United Nations migration agency, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Safa Mselhi.

Mselhi said among the migrants, who were mostly from Sudan and Eritrea, was a woman.

She said the latest interception brought to about 6000, the total number of migrants intercepted and taken back to Libya this year.
